Libelium Waspmote sensor nodes with LoRa RF technology

Libelium has added long-range wireless coverage to its Waspmote sensor nodes by integrating Semtech’s LoRa RF technology in a module-on-a-chip embedded radio design for smart cities and Internet of Things (IoT) deployments. The radio technology offers extreme range, even through buildings and urban environments.

The sensor nodes are designed to deploy by the thousands, connecting any sensor using any communication protocol to any cloud system. The LoRa communication protocol extends wireless connectivity so the sensors can transmit data at distances of several kilometres through buildings and over 32 km in open spaces. With LoRa’s high sensitivity of 138 dBm, the Waspmote long-range module can receive data packets transmitted through difficult conditions and long links, reducing infrastructure costs for city uses.

The flexibility and availability of more than 80 sensors for Libelium Waspmote, combined with the benefits of LoRa long range and extended battery lifetime, creates a suitable solution for smart cities and IoT applications.
