Customised GPS antennas for optimal GPS performance

Step Global supply high-performance GPS antennas built to the user's own specifications. The antennas are manufactured in Canada by Wi-Sys Communications.

Options include mounting (eg, magnetic, through-hole, screw, adhesive, glass, surface), form-factor (low profile, covert, conical), noise figure (down to 0.5 dB), power consumption (down to 2 mA), anti jamming and filtering levels, gain (up to 40 dB), choice of LNA (double and triple stage) and cost. Many combinations of the building block components are possible to achieve a custom product to the user's specification.

GPS antenna specifications affect GPS receiver performance by directly affecting the quality of the signal available to the GPS receiver. An inadequate TV antenna delivers a poor signal resulting in 'snow' and ghost images. Under normal conditions, high-performance GPS antennas deliver better signal and GPS accuracy and fix times are better. In adverse GPS reception situations they deliver usable signals longer, resulting in more fixes and better accuracy.

The option to customise an antenna for particular applications by choosing noise figure, power consumption, filtering and gain - and to have the choice of the best specifications available on each parameter - is an opportunity to ensure optimal GPS receiver performance.
