Storing lithium-polymer energy

Thursday, 19 September, 2002

Cidetec, Cegasa and Zigor are in the first stage in a project about lithium polymer energy. They have developed a lab-scale prototype of a rechargeable graphite-polypirrol battery. The area of the battery is 1, 9 x 1, 5 cm and it can provide an energy density of 125 Wh/kg.

The organic batteries are useful for applications where the weight of the battery is determining, such as in telephones, computers and mobile phones. The organic batteries also make recycling easier by eliminating the most toxic components of the present (such as inorganic oxides).
