Maxim MAX98400 filterless class D amplifier range

Maxim has introduced the MAX98400, a family of filterless class D amplifiers available in 2 x 12, 2 x 20 and 1 x 40 W configurations.

Anti-clipping circuitry automatically reduces the amplifier’s gain when the supply voltage is insufficient to deliver the desired output voltage. Voltage limiting prevents damage when the supply voltage outputs more power than the speaker can handle.

A pin-selectable mono/stereo mode changes the MAX98400A from a stereo 20 to mono 40 W amplifier, while the 98400B is a stereo 12 W amplifier. The combination of low EMI and integrated protection features makes the amplifiers suitable for TVs, notebooks and all-in-one desktop applications.

The 98400 devices also feature thermal foldback that reduces the output signal when the internal junction temperature exceeds +120°C. Additionally, the amplifier family features short-circuit and thermal-overload protection, click-and-pop suppression and shutdown control.
