Maxim MAX98500 boosted 2.2 W Class D amplifier
Maxim has announced the MAX98500 boosted 2.2 W Class D amplifier, designed for battery-operated portable devices.
The device integrates a boost converter to provide a constant output power and louder audio output over a wide range of battery supply voltages.
It has a battery-tracking automatic-level-control (ALC) that limits the maximum output swing as the supply voltage drops. ALC helps to avoid clipping and prevents the battery voltage from collapsing.
The device is suitable for mobile phones, portable media players, PDAs, netbooks and other battery-operated audio applications.
It accepts a 2.5 to 5.5 V supply and is operational to 2.3 V. The device delivers 2.2 W of output (8 Ω, VDD = 3.6 V, THD+N = 10%) and has a total efficiency of 85% (typ).
