Friday, 23 July, 2010 | Supplied by: Avnet Electronics Marketing

Atmel has introduced what it claims is the world’s smallest flash microcontroller, an eight-pad ultra-thin dual flat no-lead (UDFN) package measuring 2 x 2 x 0.6 mm, resulting in a volume of 2.4 mm3.

It is the tinyAVR device family, the ATtiny4, ATtiny5, ATtiny9 and ATtiny10 that are offered in this ultrasmall package.

The target areas for these microcontrollers are consumer electronics, lighting and distributed industrial control. Small, fast and affordable MCUs are needed in many consumer applications like toothbrushes and other personal care, coffee makers, clothes irons and vacuums, flat panel TVs and videos, and toys.
