RF Micro Devices has added two broadband units to its range of transmission products.
The D10040300GTH hybrid power doubler amplifier module and OS10040320PW optical receiver module are designed for current- and next-generation CATV infrastructure applications.
The amplifier is specifically designed for CATV infrastructure applications including line amplification and hybrid fibre coaxial optical nodes, and operates from 40 MHz to 1 GHz while typically maintaining 30 dB or better of gain across the entire frequency range. The module helps cable operators upgrade existing distribution networks to 1 GHz and enables bandwidth-intensive services such as high-speed data, voice and HDTV.
Operators can also exploit the linearity of the device to reduce the number of amplifiers in the network.
The optical receiver is designed for use in HFC optical nodes and deep fibre network installations. It contains a singlemode optical input suitable for wavelengths from 1290 to 1600 nm, a terminal for monitoring the PIN diode current and electrical output with an impedance of 75 Ω.
The equivalent input noise current performance is 5 pA per root Hertz. By enabling the optical node portion of HFC networks to be placed deeper into CATV networks, the module is claimed to minimise requirements for erbium-doped fibre amplifiers (EDFAs).
