Embedded serial device servers

Interworld Electronics supplies a range of embedded serial device server solutions. Both wired and wireless serial device servers are available.

Serial device servers are designed to enumerate as native COM ports on a server or PC workstation while providing a point-to-point connection to a remote serial device. The embedded serial device servers are PCB board only versions of Quatech’s popular stand-alone SSE-100D and DSE-100D models.

Quatech's device servers feature a PowerPC microprocessor from Freescale to provide low network latency, easy integration and configuration, remote web browser administration, auto-detection 10/100 Mbps ethernet connection and a range of operating modes. Native com port emulation, Raw TCP, AutoTCP and serial tunnelling modes are available. Virtual COM port drivers are provided for Windows NT4/2000/XP and Linux. Other OS support is via TCP socket modes.

These serial device servers are said to be suitable for OEM solutions, custom enclosures and other situations where the external shell is not needed.
