Wednesday, 05 August, 2020 | Supplied by: Wireless Components

The DUO mXTEND dual-band embedded antenna, from Fractus Antennas, is part of the latest generation of antenna solutions based on the company’s Virtual Antenna technology. This technology enables replacing conventional and custom antenna solutions with multiband, multipurpose chip antennas that fit in a variety of wireless platforms, which should enable simpler and faster designs versus custom solutions.

The product also incorporates a design approach that eliminates the need for clearance area beyond its already-reduced footprint. The combination of these two miniaturising features makes the antenna suitable for small and portable tracking devices, further eliminating the need for custom antenna development.

The miniature, high-efficiency antenna is versatile and can be optimised for a variety of requirements through external matching networks. With an omnidirectional radiation pattern, satellite signals are tracked regardless of the relative position, attitude and orientation of the tracking device. It is suitable for GPS/GALILEO/GLONASS/BeiDou modules, smart tracking devices, sport navigators, handsets and smartphones, tablets, digital cameras, and smartwatches and wearables.

The product has an average efficiency of >60% @ 1561 MHz, >70% @ 1575 MHz and >60% @ 1598–1606 MHz. It has an operating temperature of -40 to +125°C and impedance of 50 Ω. It measures 7 x 3 x 2 mm and weighs 0.11 g.
