National Semiconductor has announced the 8 bit 60 MSPS ADC and the 5 V dual 12 bit 40 MSPS ADC.
The ADC08L060 consumes 39 mW at 60 MSPS while the 40 MSPS two channel ADC12D040 consumes 650 mW.
The ADC08L060 is suited to digital communications, portable test equipment, camcorders and portable ultrasound imaging.
It consumes 0.65 mW/MSPS and a power consumption that scales with sample rate, between 10 MSPS and 60 MSPS while consuming power proportional to the speed of operation. The ADC12D040 is designed for medical ultrasound imaging, television broadcast cameras, wireless local loops and digital communications. It has a 68 dB signal-to-noise ratio and 80 dB spurious-free dynamic range. Its high SNR gives good image quality in imaging applications.
The dual feature of the ADC12D040 requires board space and system power dissipation, particularly in ultrasound applications using 128 channels. Additionally, this device features close channel matching and virtually no crosstalk.
