Foundry Networks has announced interface modules for three existing product families. BigIron Layer 3 switches, FastIron Layer 2/3 switches and NetIron metro routers will use the JetCore-based modules to provide high-density 100 Mbps ethernet connectivity over multimode and singlemode optical fibre.
The modules have features including quality of service, wire-speed extended access control lists, hardware-based sFlow for wire-speed network monitoring and rich bandwidth management features.
Each of the 100Base-Fx interface modules is one slot wide and uses MTRJ connectors to provide superior port density in a small footprint.
The 100Base-Fx modules for FastIron systems include ternary content addressable memory with a maximum capacity of up to 32,000 Layer 3 lookups, whereas the modules for BigIron and NetIron systems offer a capacity of up to 64,000 Layer 3 lookups.
The TCAM technology, coupled with Foundry's in-house silicon development allows Foundry's systems to offer ultra-low latency switching at wire-speed throughputs.
