Lippert Embedded Computers has introduced the CoreExpress-ECO featuring a low-power Atom processor, built in 45 nm chip technology. The CoreExpress comes with digital buses only and 1 GB soldered RAM.

Due to its small size and light weight (65 x 58 mm, 28 g), it is suitable for mobile and ruggedised applications, POS, POI, and motor vehicle use.

The format is devised to take advantage of such new processors and chipsets. The small thermal design power of these chips allows dense designs requiring only a little cooling.

The modules are processor-independent entire plug-in processing units and come complete with memory, graphics and communication interfaces. A 220-pin connector brings these interface signals to an application-specific carrier board.

Because all the CPU complexity is handled on the module, the carrier board can be designed using a low-complexity printed circuit board that can be built economically.
