Wednesday, 16 March, 2022 | Supplied by: Backplane Systems Technology Pty Ltd

MPL’s µMAXBES is a rugged 10-port Gigabit switch. The open-frame version offers a 1 Gb port lockable header. The 10 Gb ports can be equipped with RJ45 or SFP connectors. All ports have status LEDs, indicating the activity and speed of each port.

The compact device measures just 115 x 95 x 30 mm and weighs 237 g; it can be used as an open-frame solution or in a MIL housing with the user’s choice of connectors. Supply power is 5–36 VDC and uses less than 6 W (8x 1 Gb copper links and 2x 10 Gb SFP+ fully operational). The product can be operated at -20 to +60°C; an extended-temperature version operates at -40 to +85°C.

For the fibre ports, most Ethernet-compatible transceivers can be used. This allows the user to select the appropriate transceiver for each link. In the same size as the SFP+ carrier, a copper RJ45 carrier is available. The product can be equipped with two carriers (2x copper or fibre, or one of each). The copper carrier supports 100 Mb, 1 Gb, 2.5 Gb, 5 Gb and 10 Gb. The SFP+ carrier supports 1 and 10 Gb SFP.

As a managed switch, the product gives access to various switch settings to configure features like quality of service, VLAN and rapid spanning tree, to mention just a few. To adjust these switch settings, an easy-to-use web interface is provided.
