Nuvoton NAU83G10 and NAU83G20 smart amplifiers

Nuvoton Technology has announced its mono smart amplifier devices NAU83G10 and NAU83G20, featuring integrated Klippel Controlled Sound (KCS) technology from Klippel.

Loudspeakers are nonlinear and time-variant systems. Signal distortion, heating, ageing, climate and other external influences limit the maximum level and the quality of the reproduced sound. Compared to conventional smart amplifier devices based on a linear speaker model, the KCS algorithm is based on an adaptive and nonlinear speaker control model, which can improve the speaker performance and the sound quality greatly by offering mechanical and thermal protection, automatic system alignment, active compensation of transducer nonlinearities and active stabilisation of the voice coil rest position. The technique allows the transducer to operate the wider speaker displacement range without damaging the speaker and to improve the sound quality and AEC barge-in performance by reducing speaker distortions.

Both the NAU83G10 and the NAU83G20 devices are mono Class D amplifiers with IV sense ADCs. A powerful Cadence Tensilica HiFi Audio DSP core is integrated inside to run the KCS algorithm efficiently, and both devices can support I2C control and I2S/PCM/TDM audio interface. The NAU83G10 can deliver up to 8 W output power into 4Ω load and 6.5 W for 8Ω using a highly efficiency Class G boost converter. The NAU83G20 can deliver up to 20 W for 4Ω and 11 W for 8Ω around 12.6 V external battery supply level.

Applications include smartphones, laptops/PCs, tablets, Bluetooth/wireless speakers and portable game controllers.
