Quarter brick converter

Monday, 01 June, 2009 | Supplied by: Nu Horizons Electronics Asia Pty Ltd

The HPQ series from Murata is an ultra-high-power quarter brick, isolated DC/DC converter.

The module has a 3.3 VDC fixed output and an output current of up to 50 A providing up to 165 W of power.

The converter has an open frame, designed for printed circuit board mounting and suitable for use across -40 to 85 °C.

The series has a wide voltage input range of 36 to 75 DC. A planar magnetics design provides full magnetic and optical isolation with basic insulation up to 2250 V. High efficiency to 90% is achieved through the use of a synchronous rectifier and the converter’s output voltage is regulated to within ±1% and may be trimmed within ±10% of nominal output.

An external remote on/off control that may use either positive or negative polarity is provided for applications needing controlled start-up or shutdown. Remote sense inputs compensate for resistive line drops at high currents.
