Tuesday, 13 March, 2001 | Supplied by: Backplane Systems Technology Pty Ltd

Backplane has released Octagon Systems' latest single board computer in the company's Mobile Industrial Computer family, the PC-500.

The board has a 133 MHz 5 x 86 CPU, five serial ports, ethernet, SCSI-2 interface, flat panel video controller and 24 lines of digital I/O.

The card withstands 20 g of shock, 3 g of vibration and operates in temperatures ranging from -40 to +70°C at full CPU speed.

The PC-500 can be operated standalone or with PC/104 expansion.

The product is designed to be bolted in the boot of cars, mounted under railway waggons and in other high vibration environments where heating and cooling are not available.

The computer supports Windows NT and QNX. The on-card flash contains DOS 6.22 and diagnostic software to test and verify on-card I/O and memory functions.

Application programs can also be structured in the 2 MB of resident flash or on an external, 24 MB flash card to eliminate the need for a hard drive.

The PC-500 supports CRTs and LCD, plasma and EL flat panel displays. The C&T 65550 video controller has a graphics accelerator and supports real-time PC video.
