STMicroelectronics has announced an extension of its STM32 family of pin- and software-compatible microcontrollers.

The STM32 F7 microcontroller (MCU) series leverages the ARM Cortex-M7 core processor and is claimed to deliver up to twice as much processing as the STM32 F4 MCU. The series operates at frequencies up to 200 MHz and uses a six-stage superscalar pipeline and floating point unit (FPU) to produce up to 1000 CoreMarks.

The company has included two independent mechanisms to reach 0-wait-state performance from both internal and external memories. The series has been manufactured on the company’s robust and 90 nm embedded-non-volatile memory CMOS process technology.
