Toshiba’s Semiconductor & Storage Products Company has announced the 4A output smart gate driver photocoupler TLP5214, which is housed in a thin SO16L package and prevents IGBTs from overcurrent conditions.

The product integrates multiple protection features, with IGBT desaturation detection, active miller clamp and fault detection among them. With its thin package and low height of 2.3 mm (max), the device guarantees a creepage distance of 8 mm, making it suitable for applications requiring high isolation specs.

Combined with Toshiba’s infrared LED, the product is suitable for use in a wide range of applications, including those that require high thermo-stability, such as factory automation, home photovoltaic power systems and UPSs. A maximum propagation delay time of 150 ns and propagation delay skew of ±80 ns are ensured within the defined operation temperature range (up to 110°C), making it possible to reduce dead time in the inverter circuit.
