Maxim has introduced the 4999 differential, 8:1 multiplexer for high-speed USB applications.
The device switches between eight USB hosts and a single peripheral at data rates up to 480 Mbps, enabling users to access data through the front panel of the server chassis.
The multiplexer has low, 6.5Ω on-resistance and low, 3 pF on-capacitance. Additionally, an integrated charge pump improves performance by allowing signal levels greater than the supply voltage.
To minimise consumption, the device’s enable input can be driven low to place it in standby mode, shutting off the charge pump. In addition, the enable pins of two multiplexers can be connected together to form a 16:1 device, while still supporting high-speed USB data rates.
The device operates from a single +3.3 V supply and is fully specified over the -40 to +85°C extended temperature range.
