Expanding on the AP21x1/x2 family, the AP21x6 family of dual USB power switches from Diodes offers a reduced footprint, improved switch on-resistance and better power dissipation.

The integrated high-side devices are optimised for self-powered and bus-powered USB and other hot-swap applications.

The family complies with all USB standards and is available with both polarities of enable input.

Offered in SO8 packaging, the devices are rated for commercial applications. The switches are also available in thermally enhanced MSOP-8L-EP packages and are specified for operation over a temperature range of -40 to +85 °C. Extended output current options at 0.5, 1 and 1.5 A are available in both footprints, enabling the switches to be used to protect multiple USB ports for space-conscious and low-cost solutions.

The family is claimed to offer faster response times, more accurate current limiting protection and reverse current blocking.
