An electronic switch has been released by New Zealand company Vectek Electronics. To achieve high reliability it is often necessary to switch to an alternative power supply quickly but without connecting the two supplies together and transferring any fault that may be present.
The static transfer switch shifts from one power source to an alternative supply with less than ¼ cycle transfer time.
The device is a second generation design that monitors two alternative supplies. Should the main supply fail or its voltage move outside present bounds and the alternative supply remain within set bounds, the system will automatically transfer the load to the alternative supply.
