Wraparound resistor

Vishay has introduced the improved VSMP0603 ultra-high-precision bulk metal z-foil (BMZF) wraparound surface-mount resistor with an extended power rating to 0.1 W and higher resistance values to 5 kΩ.

The device is claimed to be the first in the 0603 chips size to offer a military-grade absolute TCR of ±0.2 ppm/°C from -55 to +125 °C, +25 °C ref, a tolerance of ±0.01% and a 1 ns rise time, without ringing.

While typical 0603 resistors offer a load-life stability of 0.1% through a 1000-hour workload, this device has an improved load-life stability of ±0.005% (50 ppm) at +70 °C for 2000 h at rated power.

The resistor retains all the foil attributes of accuracy, frequency response, electrostatic discharge immunity up to 25 kV and load and temperature stability, in exchange for a reduced range of resistance.

Now, any value from 100 Ω to 5 kΩ is available with ±0.2 ppm/°C TCR and up to a 100 mW power rating at 70 °C. The resistors are not restricted to standard values and any values such as 200.049 or 200 kΩ can be supplied.

The resistor features a full wraparound termination that ensures safe handling during manufacturing as well as providing stability during multiple thermal cycling.

The resistor can handle unconventional environmental conditions with minimal drift, making it suitable for military/space applications according to EEE-INST-002 specifications and MIL-PRF 55342.
